PHARRELL AND CHANEL'S ONGOING LOVE STORY

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CHANEL AND PHARRELL

Pharrell isn’t one to shy away from stealing the spotlight at any place, show or any party he went. Just a natural phenomenon. Pharrell would be the first man to do a collaborative capsule collection with Chanel. Something that had never seen the daylight before in the history of Chanel.

Pharrell had done multiple tasks for the French fashion house in advance of the collaboration. He already starred in several campaigns, composed a song for the Paris-Salzburg Chanel show and he designed the collaboration sneakers between Chanel and Adidas. Pharrell already had a good amount of experience through Adidas, where he released hands full of premiere silhouettes. Which was an immense success for Adidas as well as for Pharrell himself.

THE FIRST TEASINGS

It was announced in October of 2018 that Chanel and Pharrell had a collaboration upcoming. In this time, they wouldn’t spit any details about the collaboration so details were sparse. Though, Pharrell Williams himself was spotted sporting several pieces that appeared to be from the upcoming capsule collaboration.

The crocodile embossed leather shopping bag. This leather tote was seen on the shoulder of Pharrell when he was attending Paris Fashion Week. The bag featured crocodile embossed leather details, chain detailed straps, the famous interlocking ‘C’s and the number ‘5’ of Coco Chanel.

Back in 2019, Chanel held a show in Bangkok on a cruise ship. Pharrell attended the show wearing a yellow hoodie. Seemingly to be a hoodie from the collaborative capsule collection between Chanel and Pharrell.

The hoodie featured multiple colorful and glittery artworks, surrounding the N°5 and the interlocking ‘C’ logo’s from Coco Chanel.

He told sources: ‘ I celebrate individuality with this collection’.

25th of March, Chanel shares intricate first images with Vogue about the Chanel Pharrell collaboration. The collection consisted of hoodies, dresses in various sizes, t-shirts, bucket hats, loafers and sneakers, shopper bags, jewelry and other accessories, all in bright, loud colors. The collection didn’t have anything to do with the history of Chanel, though homage was paid to a certain extent throughout the collection.

Pharrell really pushes femininity in the context of expressing yourself. In an interview with GQ, he said: ‘It’s time for women to rise, it’s their time’. Backed by the words: ‘Women will save the world’. which work as a artwork on a few garments of this capsule. He finds that the true nature of masculinity is: ‘Recognizing other energy and respecting it, just as much as your own’.

The collection was firstly dropped in the new flagship store in Seoul, South-Korea and later worldwide on the 4th of April in 2019. As if now, the collection is sold-out globally. However, the resale-market has seen a few pieces of this collection floating on their platform, outrageously priced.
